Weird Places

This week I am keeping my sanity with Werner Herzog documentaries.  Franz and I watched Encounters at the End of the World over Christmas vacation, and although the narration gets a little flowery, it was still an excellent documentary.  Werner has a tendency to take his viewers to places that few of us will ever see in person, which makes the documentaries extremely entertaining.

We finished Happy People on Tuesday, which chronicles a year in the taiga, following a self-reliant trapper.  Good stuff.

At the time of writing, it is Wednesday, and we will be watching The Cave of Forgotten Dreams over the next few days.  I'm confident that it will enlighten and entertain.

Sanity Project

Boards are on the not-too-distant horizon and I've been modifying the way I study in preparation.  Since I know that stress will be the biggest beast, I'm trying a very structured approach which includes 10 minute breaks for every 50 minutes of studying.

I've also begun a "sanity project."  Franz and I went out last night and scoured the Berlin Turnpike for a folding hand-saw.  I wanted a Corona, which come highly praised by the Reddit bushcraft community, but I had to make do with a Fiskars.  Once home, I started working on my very first wooden spoon.  This is the first time I've ever truly used my Mora (a cheap Swedish knife - also highly praised by the bushcraft community), and so far she's performing beautifully.

Next stop on the sanity project: finding and visiting a military surplus store.
